Graduate Management Admission Test
(GMAT)

About the exam

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is an official exam used for admission to graduate management programs such as the Master of Business Administration (MBA). It is required for admission to the majority of business schools around the world.

Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) created and administers the GMAT to give business schools with standardized measures of applicants’ readiness for graduate-level academic work.

It is a computer-adaptive test that lasts 3 hours and 7 minutes and is designed to assess analytical, quantitative, verbal, and writing skills. Test takers are evaluated based on these abilities and are assigned a GMAT score between 200 and 800 in 10-point increments.

The Curriculum

The GMAT syllabus includes a variety of topics divided into the following sections

Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA): This section assesses your ability to critically evaluate data and articulate your ideas effectively in written English.
Integrated Reasoning (IR): This section evaluates your ability to process and interpret data presented in a variety of formats, including tables, graphs, and charts.
Quantitative Reasoning (QR): This section assesses your understanding and execution of fundamental mathematical ideas. It covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data sufficiency questions.
Verbal Reasoning (VR): This section assesses your ability to absorb and interpret written content. It includes reading comprehension, sentence correction, and critical reasoning tasks.

Eligibility for the Exam

The GMAC has no explicit GMAT eligibility criteria other than age, which states that anybody over the age of 18 can take the GMAT exam, while those under the age of 18 must produce a signed GMAT Parental Consent/Authorization form.
