Graduate Record Examinations
(GRE)

About the exam

The Gradtuate Record Examination (GRE), administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS), is an important admissions requirement for many graduate schools in the United States and Canada and a few other countries making it your gateway to grad, business and law degrees.
The GRE is used to evaluate applicants’ verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills for graduate school programs. Its objective is to give graduate schools a standardized method to assess these abilities so they can make educated admissions decisions.

The Curriculum

The GRE curriculum is broken down into three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing.

These three sections are intended to test your abilities in areas essential to graduate school success. Understanding and evaluating written and numerical material, which are fundamental abilities for academic research, require Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. Analytical writing is necessary for presenting ideas persuasively and clearly in writing, which is an essential ability for any academic or professional effort.
The GRE General Test takes around 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete. The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning exams each last 60 minutes, while the Analytical Writing section lasts 30 minutes.

Eligibility for the Exam

There are no precise GRE eligibility criteria imposed by ETS, except from holding an original passport to provide evidence of identity at the exam center. Anyone, regardless of age or qualifications, can register for the GRE exam.

Exam fees

For Indian students registering for the GRE General Test, the application price is 270 USD which roughly converts to Rs. 22,500 for Indian students. For students in India, the GRE Subject Test costs $14,500. In addition, if applicants want to modify the center or postpone the exam, they must pay an additional fee.

Schedule of the Exam

The GRE General Test is available as a computer-delivered test (CBT) and an at-home test (HBT) at Prometric test centers worldwide. The CBT is the most generally available format and is available all year. The HBT is limited in number and subject to availability.
