International English Language Testing System
(IELTS)
About the exam
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS)is an accredited test used to evaluate non-native speakers’ English language skills. In English-speaking nations, universities, businesses, and immigration officials generally accept it.
Why is IELTS Important?
Academic and Professional Requirements: IELTS is a prerequisite for entrance to many English-speaking universities and colleges.
Immigration: IELTS is required for visa applications in nations including Australia, Canada, the UK, and New Zealand.
Employment: For worldwide positions, certain multinational corporations and sectors demand that workers possess a particular IELTS score.

The Curriculum
The IELTS curriculum is split into four major sections
Listening: This section assesses your ability to interpret spoken English. You will hear four recordings of fluent English speakers and respond to questions about what you hear. The time duration is 30 minutes.
Reading: Your ability to read and interpret written English is assessed in this part. You will read three paragraphs and respond to a range of questions, including multiple-choice, true/false, and short answers. The time duration is 60 minutes.
Writing: This section assesses your ability to express yourself in English. You will be required to write two pieces of writing: a short essay and a letter or email. The time duration is 60 minutes.
Speaking: This section assesses your ability to communicate in English. You will have a face-to-face interview with an examiner, where you will answer questions about yourself while engaging in a brief conversation. The time duration is about 11-14 minutes.

Eligibility for the Exam
There are basic qualifying requirements for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam, there is no upper age limit, however, you must be at least 16 to take it. Since no educational requirements exist, anyone of legal age can register for the test. Individuals from all nations can take the IELTS because no limitations are based on domicile or nationality. The test is used for several things, such as professional certification, immigration, and academic admittance. Although certain score requirements may be set by organizations or visa programs, this has no bearing on everyone’s eligibility to take the test.
Exam fees
The cost of the IELTS exam for Indian students varies according to the test type (General Training or Academic) and the testing location. However, INR 17,000 ($190 to $250) is currently required to register for the Academic and General Training IELTS. This fee includes the cost of the test as well as the creation of a single-score report.
Schedule of the Exam
IELTS IDP India is the official IELTS testing center. The IELTS exam is offered several times throughout the year. To minimize last-minute errors, candidates should select an exam date 5-6 months before their application deadline. Choosing a date that is convenient for them while keeping the university entrance process in mind.

IELTS Test Overview
With half-point increments, the IELTS score ranges from 0 to 9, which is intended to evaluate English language skills. Every test segment is given a unique score, and the results are used to determine the final band score. With the exception of the speaking test, which might be administered on a different day, the entire test lasts roughly two hours and forty-five minutes. This format guarantees a thorough assessment of the test-taker’s English speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills.
